JUBILEE HOSPITALITY ASSOCIATION CANADA

Why JHAC Was Created—And Why It Still Matters Today

It is difficult to stand out and remain strong as an independent hotel in Canada in a world that is becoming more and more dominated by large brands, booking websites, and corporate hotel chains.

The Jubilee Hospitality Association Canada (JHAC), a member-led, non-profit organization, was established for just this reason: to support the independent hotel owners’ voice and commercial success in Canada. This relationship is not merely another one. There is a movement, a system. A lifeline for independent hotel owners who wish to maintain their competitiveness without sacrificing their local character, voice, or principles.

This is our narrative and why our purpose is more important than ever, regardless of your level of experience as a hotelier or your level of familiarity with JHAC.

The Spark That Started It All

The idea for JHAC came from something simple—but powerful: conversations between hotel owners who were tired of going it alone.

Years ago, as Canadian hospitality evolved, independent hoteliers began facing shared struggles:

  • Larger chains securing better supplier deals
  • Skyrocketing operational costs with little support
  • Increased guest expectations and limited tech access
  • Online travel agencies cutting into margins
  • A growing sense of isolation in a changing industry

These weren’t isolated challenges—they were national ones. So a group of like-minded Canadian hotel owners came together with one question:

“What if we created something just for us?”

That question became the seed for what is now the Jubilee Hospitality Association Canada—a community built by independent hoteliers, for independent hoteliers.

What JHAC Stands For?

The goal of JHAC has been quite clear since the beginning: to support independent hotels in Canada in their efforts to compete, network, and prosper without sacrificing their autonomy.

But how can we accomplish that?

Power of Numbers

Our ability to unite hotel proprietors gives us access to common vendor networks, group pricing, and cooperative marketing options that can compete with the might of large chains.

Smarter Operations

We connect our members with reliable Canadian vendors, technology solutions, and purchasing programs designed specifically for smaller, independent properties.

Information is Power

JHAC members benefit from peer-to-peer insights, data-driven recommendations, and special training materials to increase guest pleasure and profitability.

Global Reach, Community Heart

JHAC makes sure your opinion is heard on everything from policy to innovation, regardless of whether your hotel is located in a bustling capital or a sleepy rural community.

Why JHAC Still Matters Today?

Canada’s hotel industry is evolving more quickly than ever before. What it means to operate a successful hotel has changed as a result of technology, visitor needs, sustainability, and the post-pandemic recovery.

JHAC is more important than ever for precisely this reason.

Here’s how we’re continuing to create impact:

1. We’re Leveling the Playing Field

When it comes to digital technologies, booking relationships, and vendor price, large hotel groups frequently have the upper hand. JHAC changes the rules by granting independent contractors access to the same benefits without the need for corporate red tape or franchise fees.

From bulk purchasing programs to exclusive discounts on linens, software, and guest amenities—our network saves members money and time, every single month.

2. We’re Building Community

Isolation doesn’t help anyone in hospitality. JHAC brings together members from different provinces to exchange ideas, solve problems, and celebrate successes.
JHAC offers a forum for genuine discussions with actual Canadian hoteliers, whether via webinars, online roundtables, or live events.

3. We’re Advocating for Independents

From industry regulation to supplier fairness, we represent the interests of small and mid-sized hotel owners at every level. We stand up for people who are frequently left out of major decision-making processes.

4. We’re Creating a Future-Ready Industry

Hospitality is evolving—and so are we. JHAC helps members stay ahead with:

  • Technology recommendations
  • Training in modern guest experience tools
  • Sustainable hospitality insights
  • Partnerships that foster innovation, not conformity

A Tradition Based on Cooperation

The word “Jubilee” honors the sense of community that characterizes our sector by reflecting celebration, legacy, and advancement.

We believe every Canadian hotel—no matter its size—deserves to be celebrated. JHAC was created to ensure that no independent hotel gets left behind.

So, Why Does JHAC Still Matter?

Because hotel owners are more dependent on one another now than ever before.

In an increasingly worldwide economy, they want a powerful, local voice.

They require training, reliable sources, and access to tools.

They need community.

They need JHAC.
